LevelZ

A better tool only improves your resource route when the character can use it and the target block can be gathered. LevelZ mining and woodcutting planning should therefore begin with the whole activity, rather than a single equipment tier.

This guide helps you inspect the route from collecting a material to using it. It avoids universal unlock tables because a custom pack can assign different requirements to the same-looking activity.

Identify the blocked action

Describe what happens before spending points. Can you hold the tool but not use it? Can you mine one block but not another? Can you collect a resource but not craft the next item?

Those observations separate equipment access from block and recipe access. The developer's restriction documentation distinguishes item use, mining, block use and crafting as possible rule targets.

Check the resource chain

Start with a usable tool

Inspect the current tool and any proposed replacement. Record the requirements actually displayed in the current pack. Do not infer the answer solely from wood, stone, iron or another material label.

Keep the currently usable tool until the upgrade has been tested. A high-tier item sitting unused in inventory does not make gathering faster.

Verify the target material

Test the specific block you want to gather. A rule affecting one block or variant may not affect another. When a mod adds additional resources, its blocks can require separate integration rules.

Then check what happens to the material after collection. A crafting station or output recipe can be another gate. Solving the mining requirement alone may leave the rest of the route incomplete.

Choose the upgrade that removes the bottleneck

Suppose a hypothetical pack lets you gather logs, but a needed processing step is blocked. Investing in a faster axe would not remove that processing restriction.

Alternatively, if every later step works and tool use is the only obstacle, a focused tool requirement can be the most useful investment. Plan around the stage that stops the task, not the upgrade that looks most impressive.

A resource-route worksheet

StageQuestion to answer
EquipmentCan my character use the intended tool?
Target blockIs gathering this exact block allowed?
MaterialDoes the collected item match the recipe?
ProcessingCan I use the required station or interaction?
OutputIs crafting or using the result separately restricted?

Fill in the actual values from your installation. This worksheet is a diagnostic structure, not a default LevelZ requirement table.

Make gathering practical

Establish a short route with food, spare usable tools and a recovery plan. Avoid travelling far for a material before confirming that you can complete the route.

After a successful upgrade, repeat a small gathering task and compare the result. A new capability may open a better route, but that benefit should be observed rather than assumed.

Troubleshoot unusual behaviour

For one blocked item, compare its identifier and rule with a working alternative. For a broad category of blocked resources, inspect the active datapack and pack documentation.

On multiplayer, ask which rules the server uses. A client-side description can be outdated if the installation is mismatched. Reconnect after the administrator makes a confirmed change and repeat the same controlled test.

Resource-gathering questions

Does a mining skill always cover every tool?

Do not assume that. Check the displayed requirements and active rules.

Can I copy another pack's unlock values?

Only as an illustration. Your pack defines the requirements you must meet.

Why can I collect an item but not use it?

Obtaining and using are different actions. Inspect the output item's requirements.

What should I do if a custom material has no sensible rule?

Pack authors can investigate its integration using the datapack restriction guide.
